Avoiding 'Euro-jargon'

Translating EU-speak into language ordinary citizens understand.

Subsidiarity? Cohesion? Acquis?

EU institutions love acronyms and Latinisms. To engage ordinary citizens, translate them:

• ACQUIS COMMUNAUTAIRE → 'EU law and rules built up so far'. • SUBSIDIARITY → 'decide things at the most local level that works'. • COHESION POLICY → 'reducing the gap between richer and poorer regions'. • MFF (Multi-annual Financial Framework) → 'EU's 7-year budget'. • TRILOGUE → 'closed-door negotiation between Parliament, Council, and Commission'. • 'CITIZEN' → just 'people' if everyone's included.

The Council itself publishes a Plain Language guide — share it widely.
