Three layers of funding are worth knowing:
• LOCAL: your municipality's culture office or 'small grants' fund. Smallest amounts (€500–5,000), simplest applications. • NATIONAL: Arts Council, Kulturstiftung, DGArtes, etc. Mid-sized (€5,000–€50,000), competitive. • EUROPEAN: Creative Europe (creative-culture.eu), Erasmus+ (arts strands). Largest amounts, longer timelines, demand a multi-country partnership.
For a first application, START LOCAL. A small success on paper opens doors to the larger funds.
