Captioning videos for deaf access

Captions are not optional — and they help everyone.

Why captions matter beyond accessibility

Around 1 in 6 adults in Europe lives with some hearing loss. Captions make videos usable for them. But also: 85% of social media videos are watched on mute. Adding captions roughly DOUBLES average watch time.

For short videos use YouTube's free auto-captions then EDIT THEM — auto-captions get names, places, and accents wrong. For event recordings, MixCaptions, AutoCap, or Otter.ai have free tiers. CapCut also offers free auto-caption editing.
