Co-designing courses with learners

Why involving learners in course design improves outcomes — and how to do it.

Ask, design together, iterate

Adults learn best when they have agency. A simple co-design process:

1. ASK before designing: what do you already know? what do you want to learn? what has worked in past learning? what hasn't? 2. DESIGN TOGETHER: show learners draft plans and adjust. The agenda isn't yours alone. 3. ITERATE: a 10-minute end-of-session check-in ('what worked, what should we change?') beats long feedback forms.

This is core to Freirean popular education and remains the gold standard for adult community learning.
