Cycling advocacy in EU cities

The four arguments that move local councils on bike infrastructure.

Cyclists are voters

When asking your council for safer cycling, four arguments tend to land:

1. SAFETY — protected lanes cut serious-injury risk by ~60%. 2. PUBLIC HEALTH — every kilometre cycled saves national health systems about €0.50 (WHO HEAT tool). 3. AIR QUALITY — fewer car journeys, fewer hospitalisations from PM2.5. 4. LOCAL BUSINESS — cyclists shop more often and spend more per month than drivers, despite spending less per trip.

The European Cyclists' Federation (ecf.com) provides ready-to-use slide decks and case studies in every EU language.
