Easy-read documents

How to write information that everyone — including people with learning difficulties — can use.

Pictures plus simple words

Easy-read is a recognised standard (Inclusion Europe publishes 'Information for All — European standards for making information easy to read and understand'). Core rules:

• ONE main idea per page. • SHORT sentences — under 15 words. • EVERYDAY words. Explain technical terms when they must be used. • IMAGE next to each main idea, on the left, showing the meaning. • LARGE font (14pt+) and plenty of white space. • TEST with people who will read it, before publishing.
