One wallet for the whole Union
Under the updated eIDAS regulation, every EU citizen will, by 2026, be entitled to a free European Digital Identity Wallet on their phone. It lets you prove who you are — your driving licence, university diploma, prescription, age — to any service across the EU without uploading documents to private companies.
It's voluntary, open-source, and built on privacy-by-design: you choose which pieces of data to share, one at a time. Member states are rolling out their own implementations now.
