Energy and water in the home

Heating and hot water are four fifths of a home's energy. The settings, timings and small fixes that cut bills in an Irish house, plus the grants available.

The numbers worth remembering

About 81% of the energy used in a typical Irish home goes on heating the rooms and heating the water. Everything else — lights, television, phone chargers — fights over the small share that is left. So if you want a lower bill, start with the big two and ignore the rest for now.
