Use natural and artificial light to make subjects clear, consistent and visually appropriate for the purpose of a media production.

Observe the available light

Lighting affects clarity, mood, colour and the viewer's attention. Before adding equipment, observe the light already present. Note its direction, brightness, softness and colour. A large window may provide flattering light, while direct midday sun can create deep shadows and make people narrow their eyes. Overhead office lighting may be convenient but can produce dark eye sockets, reflections on glasses…
