Pricing fairly for low-income communities

How to keep services accessible without becoming unsustainable.

Sliding scales and pay-what-you-can

Three approaches to inclusive pricing:

1. SLIDING SCALE — published bands by self-declared income (e.g., €5 / €10 / €20). Honesty is invited, not policed. 2. PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN — a suggested price with the option to pay less or more. Often surprisingly sustainable in trusting communities. 3. PAY-IT-FORWARD — solvent attendees voluntarily fund places for those who can't pay. Café Suspendu (Naples) gave us the model.

Key rule: anyone who can't pay should be able to attend without explaining themselves. Dignity comes first.
