Reaching the digitally excluded

Why posting on Facebook isn't enough — and what to do about it.

Five channels for one message

Roughly 14% of EU adults still have no basic digital skills. If your community communication is online-only, those neighbours never hear from you.

For important news, use FIVE channels at once: 1. A printed A5 leaflet on noticeboards (laundrettes, GPs, libraries, places of worship). 2. A phone call to one trusted resident per street. 3. A radio mention on community radio. 4. Social media (Facebook + WhatsApp Status reach different generations). 5. Word-of-mouth at the next community gathering.

Never rely on one channel alone.
