The purpose of overtaking
Overtaking should never be viewed as a routine driving manoeuvre. Every overtake introduces additional risk because it temporarily places the vehicle in a more vulnerable position. The purpose should always be to improve safety or maintain appropriate traffic flow rather than to save only a small amount of time.
