Setting up a neighbourhood WhatsApp respectfully

Three ground rules that keep a street-level group useful and kind.

Group, not gossip channel

A street WhatsApp group can be a lifeline (lost cat, power cut, urgent help) or a nightmare (complaints, rumours, 2 a.m. videos). Three ground rules pinned at the top help:

1. PURPOSE — 'This group is for the practical and the urgent. No politics, no rumours.' 2. QUIET HOURS — no messages 22:00 – 08:00 unless genuinely urgent. 3. NEVER POST PHOTOS OF MINORS or strangers without explicit consent.

Rotate admin every 6 months — it stops the group becoming one person's megaphone.
