Setting up a not-for-profit association

The minimal viable steps to register a community group as an association.

Three friends, one purpose

Across most EU member states, registering a non-profit association (asbl, eingetragener Verein, asociación, associazione, etc.) requires:

1. AT LEAST 2–3 FOUNDERS (number varies by country). 2. STATUTES — written rules including purpose, governance, membership, dissolution clause. 3. AN OPEN MEETING to adopt the statutes and elect officers. 4. REGISTRATION at the national registry (usually free or under €100).

Once registered, you can hold a bank account, accept donations, employ staff, and apply for grants. Doing this WITHOUT a registered legal form is risky for the founders personally.
