Speaking to One Person

Develop a natural camera style by imagining one listener, maintaining a steady eye line and avoiding an artificial broadcast voice.

A lens represents a listener

A camera may distribute a message to hundreds or thousands of people, but the viewer usually experiences it alone. Thinking about a large audience can make a speaker sound grand, stiff or impersonal. A more effective approach is to imagine one interested person behind the lens. This encourages normal phrasing, warmer expression and a pace closer to everyday conversation.
