Climate-neutral by 2050
The European Green Deal (2019) is the EU's roadmap to make the bloc climate-neutral by 2050, with an interim binding target to cut net greenhouse gases by at least 55% by 2030 (vs 1990 levels).
It covers everything: energy, transport, buildings, agriculture, biodiversity, and a Just Transition Fund to help carbon-dependent regions. Communities benefit from new funding streams — the LIFE Programme, the Modernisation Fund, and the Social Climate Fund (2026) which compensates low-income households for higher energy and transport costs.
