The 3-2-1 rule, simplified
Professionals follow the 3-2-1 rule: 3 copies, 2 different media, 1 off-site. For ordinary people that means:
• ORIGINAL on your phone or laptop. • COPY 1 on an external USB stick or hard drive that lives at home. • COPY 2 in a free cloud service (Google Photos: 15 GB free; Proton Drive: 5 GB free; pCloud: 10 GB free; Hetzner Storage Share if you want EU-based).
Do it twice a year — January and July is a memorable schedule.
