Video calling for newcomers

Joining a Zoom, Teams or Jitsi call when you've never done it before.

Click the link. Pick a name. Allow the camera.

When a community group sends you a meeting link, three things happen the first time:

1. Your browser asks 'Allow this site to use your camera and microphone?' — click 'Allow'. 2. The app asks for a display name — your first name is fine. 3. You see a preview of yourself. Adjust the camera angle and click 'Join'.

If you can't hear anyone, check the little speaker icon isn't crossed out. If they can't hear you, check the microphone icon. Jitsi Meet (jitsi.org) is fully free, requires no account, and is hosted in Europe — handy for groups who care about data sovereignty.
